In a rural area near McCloud, California, this new home was being finished when I first visited. The owner wanted to connect the entry deck to the driveway. The home is set among pines, manzanita, and ceanothus. I wanted to keep the landscape as natural as possible as the owner traveled a lot and had no real interest in keeping a manicured landscape. Being on a well, he wanted to keep the water used for the landscape to a minimum. Deer and snow were other issues we addressed during the design process. This series of photos shows the process of design, lining out on site to see how it feels, then the construction. From first picture to last was less than 3 years. The owner did the work himself.
